Below is my Sunday analysis from Hollywood Park, complete with betting strategies.
Hollywood Park analysis (Sunday, June 1, 2008)
by Jarrod Horak (racingonthenet.com, thoroughbredfever.com)
HOL 1 (Alw-61k, 4up, 8.5T) Number 2 Tybalt (7-5) looked good winning his flat mile US bow for Frankel, and he should stalk and pounce his way to another tally versus a less than stellar cast. Number 4 Heroi Do Bafra (8-5) has run well without winning in eight US starts for Frankel, and he looks 2nd best for the 4th straight time. The Plays: Exacta 2-4
HOL 2 (Clm-12.5k, 3yo fil, 6f) Number 7 Sweet Roseman (8-5) is worth trying to beat at underlaid odds. She earned a decent fig in a local $25k tally off the Monteleone claim, and now she’s in for $12.5k two weeks later. Both her wins were wire jobs, and she won’t get loose with Elsie Jo signed on. I’ll tab Number 3 Cupid’s Kitty (3-1) on top. She drops a peg after an even 4th place finish off a layoff, and Talamo is 2-2 with West recently. Number 4 Tootsnmoneybags (4-1) is back in with three-year-old friends and receives a rider upgrade to Nakatani. The Plays: Number 3 to win, Quinella 3-4
HOL 3 (OC-80/1x, 3yo, 8.5T) Number 3 Kilderry (7-5) was nabbed for a cool $100k in early April, and Mitchell promptly switched him to the sod and garnered a maiden win and a solid runner-up finish versus similar. Looks like he a premature move in his last, hence the rider switch to Bejarano. Expected a well-timed win at low odds. Number 2 Guts (4-1) was 4+ lengths behind my top two back, then graduated at this course/distance last time. His late pace figs are on the upswing, and the son of Unusual Heat can complete the exacta for Abrams. The Plays: Exacta 3-2
HOL 4 (MSW, 2yo fil, 5f) Number 4 Silar Rules (7-2) is out of freshman sire Ten Most Wanted, and dam has tossed five winners from six starters. She’s stabled at Hollywood and sports some rock solid works for Nakatani/O’Neill. Number 3 Irish Gypsy (3-1) is a $120k Keeneland sales grad debuting for Baffert, and she owns sprint breeding. The Plays: Number 4 to win, Quinella 3-4
HOL 5 (Clm-20k, 4up, 8.5f) I’ll go price shopping with Number 6 James The Third (6-1). He fell too far out of it under Nakatani off a layoff here last time, and now Bejarano tries his hand. He has run well here more than once and is an off the pace threat…but not from way out of it. Number 7 Frankelstein (3-1) drops in for a tag and looms an elusive target for 21% claiming trainer Marty Jones. The Plays: Number 6 to win, Exacta box 6-7
HOL 6 (Alw-1x, f&m 3up, 7f) Number 1 Saracina (7-2) might wire these from the negative rail post. She clearly does her best work here and exits a fine place finish after doing all the dirty work off a layoff. Chocolate Lava is her pace rival again, but she might not be as keen 2nd time back, and there is no reason to cook each other at seven panels. Number 8 Rainbow’s Song (3-1) scored despite a lack of pace in her course/distance bow, and Gallagher is 25% with his recent graduates trying winners for the 1st time. Note that Mig is 4-6 with this outfit. The Plays: Number 1 to win, Quinella 1-8
HOL 7 (Clm-40k, 4up, 8T) My racingonthenet free selection of the day.
HOL 8 (Gallant Man Hcp, 3up, 13f) Number 3 Big Booster (8-5) exits a graded turf marathon score, and he has hit the board in a trio of graded synthetic starts for Mitchell. Sharp late running gelding looks imposing at low odds today. Number 2 Jade’s Revenge (2-1) ships in for the competent Graham Motion, and maybe he’s trying to get a feel for the SoCal synthetic tracks in advance of the new BC fake Dirt Marathon later this fall. Number 4 Marsh Side (4-1) is a long-winded type. He could not keep up with tough 9f Tapeta stakes runners for Drysdale last time. This is a realistic spot, but he is far removed from his razor sharp 2006/summer 2007 form while under the care of Michael Dickinson. The Plays: Straight Trifecta 3-2-4
HOL 9 (MSW, 3up, 6T) My MySpace free selection of the day.
