Saratoga day 2 review + July 25th preview

Saratoga Day 2 recap (July 24th)

Another off track at the Spa on Friday. Main track played fair with a trio of wire jobs in sprints. Elvis Trujillo/Wesley Ward teamed up for a pair of winners, and they just missed the hat trick by a 1/2 length when Easy Ashley got run down late in the 6th. Johnny V booted home a pair, and Steve Asmussen added another win to go with his three on opening day.

Race 7: Graded 3yo winner Visionaire took advantage of a rapid pace to down older 6.5f sprinters. Knights Cross did all of the dirty pace work and gamely held the place.

Race 9 (Grade 2 Sandford): Desert Party lived up to the $2.1 million hype in his second facile victory in as many starts. He graduated at 4.5f over Polytrack, but the combination of the synthetic surface and sharp distance probably lead to a deceptively low fig. The professional son of Street Cry, owned by Darely and trained by Eoin Harty, handled the muddy oval with ease, getting 6f in 1:12.23. The promising juvenile should continue to progress with distance/experience, and the Hopeful (G1) on Labor Day looms his next target. I want to see what he can do on fast conventional dirt.

Saratoga Day 3 (July 25th)

Race 2: Interested to see how Into My Soul fares first time out with Pleasantly Perfect the daddy, out of a Cures the Blues mare. He sports a local wet fast bullet, and note that he worked on the sod before that.

Race 8 (Grade 2 Lake George): Likely fav My Princess Jess has never been out of the exacta in six grass starts, and she has handled yielding, good, and firm footing. Alwajeeha runs well fresh and looms the late striding upsetter for Johnny V/McLaughlin.
