Louisiana Downs recap (Sunday June 22nd)
I was recently named Track Handicapper/TV Host for Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.
I start my new position on June 26th, and the meet runs through October 18th.
Below is a recap of the Sunday, June 22, 2008 card from Louisiana Downs…
Race 1: Color of Cash ($8.80) from off the pace to nab prominent throughout Torres 2nd choice No Tears In Heaven in the grassy opener.
Race 2: My Shei Amour ($5.60) overcame a troubled start to deny Dupuis of the early double. Slight fav Walkandwork did all of the dirty work and held the show.
Race 3: Top two from off the pace and separated by a head, with I’m The Daddy ($6.40) just better than 53-1 Catch Crafty. Slight fav Joyful Jett checked in an even 3rd.
Race 4: Cody Meche and Fastenyourseatbelt ($15.20) by 2-1/2 in this eventful maiden claiming sprint. Eventual place finisher Bantu was placed 9th for coming in and bothering a pair of foes. 30-1 Earl Big Star was placed 2nd, and the next three finishers on the line (Sneaky Habits, Wild N Certain, Secret Hurricane) found trouble at some point.
Race 5: Riding double for Cody Meche, this time a wire job under Malibu Idol ($22.60). Bartoks Shininstar just missed under Simington. Show finisher Angelwithspirit tried hard throughout.
Race 6: Kelly’spremonition ($19.00) was last seen at Fair Grounds in February, graduated under Simington’s aggressive handling in this sharp turf sprint. Late running firster Burnley was up for the place. Macho Time was the fav under Torres, but he broke slowly and never got untracked. Solid prominent throughout show finish for Cruzin Cowboy, and he was a bit unlucky to miss the place by a head.
Race 7: Lukes Orbit ($16.80) wire to wire in the six furlong claimer. Heavy fav Bess Abner stopped in last.
Race 8: Another aggressive Simington win, this time on the turf with Jerry Cart’s T.C. Champ ($4.00). The Meche clan nailed down the next three positions, with Point Gold coming again for the place at 22-1. Cajun Conquest (3rd) hung
Race 9: Lonnie Meche ended the day with an off the pace triumph aboard Four Sons Money ($11.20), denying Simington the hat trick with Ikester.
