Louisiana Downs recap: Friday, June 20, 2008
I was recently named Track Handicapper/TV Host for Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.
I start my new position on June 26th, and the meet runs through October 18th.
Below is a recap of the Friday, June 20, 2008 card from Louisiana Downs…
Race 1: Easy stalk and pounce maiden claiming turf win for fav Boston Mystery ($5.40). 3-1 firster Run Rudy Run rallied from last to finish a clear 2nd for Jacinto/Mouton.
Race 2: Ground saving stalk and pounce victory (post 1) for Villagecreek Park ($22.80). Jett City (1.70-1 fav) rallied nicely along the inside and was coming after the winner in a decent place finish. Mr. Grumpy Stripes carved out the splits and weakened to a clear 3rd.
Race 3: Queen La Bella ($18.20) sat a decent stalking trip and won a determined nod over Cinnamon Strike. Nice turf ride by Donnie Meche. Heavy fav Leestown Light could do no better than an even 3rd.
Race 4: Runners Name ($35.80) pulled off a wire job from the 11-hole under aggressive handling from John Jacinto. Isle of Silver (1.30-1 fav) sat a tracking trip but could not catch the winner in a grinding effort. Not a bad rallying 3rd by Scion after a tight start, and he was the only off the pace runner making a dent.
Race 5: Tee Cee Cee ($14.60) was the debut winner, and it was a solid stalking effort from an inner post with some traffic on the turn to deal with. Fund’s Star (post 1) last raced at Fair Grounds for Sam David Jr., and she was involved in a traffic jam with the winner today. Diego claimed foul but the Stewards were not buying. Lara’s S Mint (post 12) opened up a big lead but could not hold off the aforementioned duo while well clear of the rest.
Race 6: LeBlanc kept his cool in early traffic aboard Bobo Is Loose ($5.00), and the stalking fav kicked clear twice in a good looking tally. Major Jeff made a serious run at the fav but could not match strides in the lane under PVal. The runner-up was 9+ lengths ahead of the rest.
Race 7: Ball Hall ($9.20) put away his overmatched pace foes en route to a romping tally, giving Donnie Meche his second 7.5 furlong turf triumph on the day. Just like Thursday, PVal landed a few minor placings, and it was late runner Winning Forum picking up the exacta pieces in this spot.
Race 8: Good day for the Meche clan, with Lonnie notching his 2nd win with Up And Out Of Site ($4.80) in the allowance feature…another stalking winner. Sam He Be set the pace and clearly held the place.
Race 9: Tribute to Freedom ($21.80) rounded out the numerous stalking winners on the day. Heavy fav Delta Whirl set the pace and clearly held the place in another recurring theme. Twilight Zephur (19-1) was an easy 3rd in the strung out field.
