July 24th LA Downs recap
Early/pressing types continue to dominate at all distances on the Louisiana Downs main. The firm turf course (rail at 25 feet) played fair. John Jacinto and Larry Taylor both booted home a pair.
My tops were firing all day with 2 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds, including best bet Major Jeff.
Race 7: Major Jeff showed improved positional speed with blinkers for new trainer Mike Burgess. He easily cleared this 2L position, and the smart claim is a threat right back versus 3L company.
Race 9: Streaky trainer Pat Mouton ran 1-3 in here with C F Squared and Dot’s Imp. The latter had some traffic trouble in 1st start versus winners.
July 25th LA Downs preview
Nine races on tap for Friday, including a trio on the turf. Leading rider Don Simington is riding several live wires and appears poised for a productive day.
Race 5: Leestown Cajun was hung out to dry (5w post 10) in needed local 5f turf sprint last out. Consistent, speedy 7yo gelding lands a better post and could go much better this time around.
Race 7: Stakes quality optional claiming 7.5f turfer gets four from the $50k Independence, with T.C. Champ the sharpest. Starspangled Gator scratched out of the aforementioned July 5th stake and looms the one to reel in for the productive Leblanc/Irwin team.
Race 9: Leblanc/Irwin also have the one to catch in the grass finale, and Ski Lift lands the cozy inside post with the rails at 25 feet.
