Louisiana Downs horses to watch

by Jarrod Horak on June 28th, 2008

Here are some horses to watch from the Thursday, June 26th card…

Race 1: Heavy fav Wadi Suki was exiting a career best in a local extended sprint off a layoff. He sat the perfect tracking trip in this route, and he ranged up like he was going to win easily, but he hung in the stretch and had to settle for the place. Don’t know if it was the added distance or a simple regression. Interesting to see where he shows up next.

Race 2: Firster Executive Girl got a great schooling run. She was green while racing in 5th along the inside, and she not appear to like the dirt in her face. She dropped back while under a whip, then started to pick up the pace a bit when another horse started making a move. She rallied outside turning for home and fought hard for the show.

Race 5: West Coast Offense controlled the pace from the inside under PVal, and he was only inches better than Buckets N Pans. The only difference was the post positions and ground saved by the winner.

Race 7: Morning Ridge won her first two starts handily, and she obviously has health issues based on her layoff lines and vet scratch in May. However, she certainly has talent and was much the best while racing wide.

Race 8 Miss Patsy perked up on the weeds in her last pair, and she stayed in here despite this race being moved to the main track. She set the pace and held the place, and look for her to return to the sod next time.
