Below is my Friday night analysis from Hollywood Park, complete with betting strategies. There is a Pick 6 (race 3-8) carryover ($69,835), and a Super High Five carryover in the finale ($56,435).

Hollywood Park analysis (Friday, May 30, 2008)

by Jarrod Horak (racingonthenet.com, thoroughbredfever.com)

HOL 1 (Clm-10k, 4up, 7f) Number 1 Sir Chimi (3-1) defeated similar course/distance foes earlier this month, and the place finisher returned to score. Barn is 27% with horses attempting a claiming repeat, and there is no reason he cannot click right back for winning connections. Number 3 War Scandal (5-1) flashed some early zip and had a winning spirit on conventional dirt, but he has disappointed in his last two synthetic starts for Mullins. This is a weak opener, and he could show more today. Number 8 Bewitching Bartok (5-2) has not been seen in two months and was a vet scratch on May 7th. He has not won since 2006 and is 0-5 on synthetic ground. Barn is 24% with this type of returnee, and Talamo is 3-7 with this outfit. Well posted runner has some speed…mixed signals. The Plays: Number 1 to win, Exacta 1/3-8, small quinella 1-3

HOL 2 (OC-62.5/2x, f&m 3up, 6T) Number 1 Look Deep (5-2) dueled and weakened as the fav in her better than appears Santa Anita synthetic comeback. Canani is 21% 1st grass, and dam has tossed a pair of turf winners. Expect aggressive handling under Pedroza from the advantageous rail…wire to wire. The Plays: Number 1 to win

HOL 3 (Clm-25k, 3yo fil, 8.5f) Number 1 Vegas Runner (9-2) is an interesting surface switcher. She fired in all five of her routes (turf, dirt, tapeta), and Talamo hops aboard the realistically spotted miss. Number 5 Applaud Dubai (5-2) is back up the ladder and can handle a route of ground. Rider upgrade from Almeida to Bejarano, and a barn downgrade from Mullins to Shulman. Note that she has failed numerous times as the fav. The Plays: Number 1 to win, Exacta box 1-5

HOL 4 My racingonthenet free pick race

HOL 5 (Alw-1x, 3up, 7f) Number 3 Cost of Freedom (5-2) dueled throughout and never gave up in a determined place finish versus state bred stakes foes here last time. There is not much pace in the paper race, and he could easily shake lose and wire these. Carla Gaines is still reeling from the sudden loss of Nashoba’s Key, and a win here can help ease the pain just a bit. Number 4 Valiant Effort (3-1) ran big in his last two seven furlong tries, and he will be in the right stalking spot should my top fail to last. Number 8 Stand Tall (3-1) exits a quality starter allowance score at this course/distance for the profitable Pedroza/Canani team. Off the pace threat is on the improve. The Plays: Number 3 to win, Exacta 3/4-8

HOL 6 My MySpace free pick race.

HOL 7 (Clm-50k, 3yo, 6T) I am going to follow Bejarano in this spot. He rode Number 4 Outlaw James (5-2) in his two good races, and he booted home Number 6 Tribal Mischief (2-1) two back. He opts for the latter, and that is good enough for me. The Plays: Number 6 to win, Exacta 6-4

HOL 8 (Mcl-25k, f&m 3up, 5.5f) Number 9 Spring Catch (9-2) showed a new rallying dimension after a slower start in her latest. Barn is 2 for last 3 with horses making their 3rd start off a layoff, and I like her newfound versatility. Number 8 Serpetineserpetine (12-1) dons the hood and receives a rider upgrade to Tyler Baze. She has trained forwardly since her local 9th place bow on May 4th, and barn is 3-8 at the stand. The Plays: Number 9 to win, small quinella 8-9, $1 super high five 9/3-5-6/3-5-6/3-5-6-8/3-5-6-8-13
