Del Mar day 3 recap + Saturday July 19th preview

by Jarrod Horak on July 18th, 2008

Polytrack played fair on Friday (7-18-08) with a pair of wire jobs (sprints) to end the day. Clifford Sise saddled a pair of winners on the card, and Tyler Baze rode both…

Race 3: It was bombs away in the opening leg of the Pick 6, as FTS Lucky Mite ($101.20) came from off the pace to post a rather easy 1-1/4 length tally. Brice Blanc rode for Michael Pender. As expected, there is a Pick 6 carryover going into the Saturday program…$135,144.

Race 7: Streamin Heat shook loose early and held off Graham Motion’s late running Saucey Evening to win the CTBA by a 1/2. Julio Garcia piloted the Wesley Ward juvenile filly.

Saturday (7-19-08) preview…

Race 1: (2) Guts (3-1) was necked in his lone local turf outing, which was at this flat mile distance. He is out of the optional claiming ranks and can be along in time for M.Smith/B.Abrams.

Race 4: My racingonthenet free selection of the day.

Race 6: (8) Tall Texan (10-1) is a bit interesting at a price for Richard Mandella. He won his 1st three synthetic sprint starts, then grabbed the lead and settled for the place in his initial try around two turns. Lightly raced 4yo son of Point Given should continue to progress in routes and sports a good looking local drill for this. (2) Surf Cat (5-2) always tries hard but is clearly more effective on conventional dirt. Note that he is very effective at 8.5f. (3) Rebellion (7-2) is another live Graham Motion runner, and this one clearly enjoys synthetic ground. Is he better sprinting? (6) Well Armed (3-1) makes his first start since a respectable show finish in the Dubai World Cup (G1). He figures to show the way but might need the outing and appears best at 9f.

Race 9: My MySpace free selection of the day.
